Accrual and balances
- PTO accrual per month — hours of paid time off earned each month (0–40).
- Annual sick leave — statutory sick leave hours per year.
- Max PTO carryover — the most an employee can carry into the next year; 0 means no limit.
- Allow negative balance — lets staff take time off before accruing enough hours.
- Cap method and Aggregate annual cap — cap leave per type, or as a single total across all types.
- Balance reset — when balances roll over.
Request rules
- Minimum notice required — days of advance notice (0–90).
- Max consecutive days — the longest single request (1–365).
- Require manager approval — when off, requests take effect without review.
- Enable blackout periods — block requests during peak or restricted periods.
Sick callouts
- Max paid hours per callout — the ceiling paid for a single sick event; 0 means unlimited.
Practices
- Set the policy before the first request. Changing accrual later does not retroactively recompute balances already granted.
- Require manager approval off is a real decision, not a convenience. With it off, an employee can take leave the roster has already been built around.
- Keep the aggregate cap consistent with your local statutory minimums — Slota enforces the number you give it, not the law.
