Pay and rates (managers)
Hourly vs salary, per-position rates, and dated changes.
For managers & adminsUpdated 31 August 2026
Rates live on the Wages tab of an employee's profile.
- Pay type — Hourly or Salary.
- Per-position hourly rate — a person working two positions can be paid differently in each. This is what makes a wage estimate on the schedule correct rather than approximate.
- Effective from — every rate carries a date, so a change is a new dated rate rather than an overwrite.
Where a person has no individual rate, the position's default hourly rate from Settings → Positions applies.
Practices
- Set the effective date to the start of a pay period, not the day you happened to make the change. Mid-period rate changes are the hardest payroll question to answer later.
- Use per-position rates rather than one blended rate. A blended rate makes the labour report wrong for both positions.
- Turn off Show employee wages on schedule (Settings → Schedule) if managers who build rosters should not see individual pay.
