Repeating a shift (managers)
Build a recurring pattern instead of creating the same shift over and over.
For managers & adminsUpdated 31 August 2026
The New Shift dialog has a collapsible Repeat section. It is only available when creating — editing one shift never rewrites a whole series.
- Open Repeat. It reads Repeat (never) until you change it.
- Choose the interval:
- Never — a single shift.
- This week — fill selected days of the current week only.
- Every week through Every 8 weeks — an ongoing series.
- Under Repeat on, select the weekdays — M T W T F S S. The day of the shift's own date is preselected. With This week, each button also shows the date it lands on.
- For an ongoing series, Starts shows the first date and you set the end of the series.
- Select Create Shift. Slota creates the series and links the shifts together.
Practices
- Build the stable backbone as a series (the people who always work Mon/Wed/Fri), then add the week's variations by hand.
- Give the series an end date. An open-ended pattern quietly generates shifts long after the person has moved on.
- Changing one occurrence changes only that occurrence. Re-cutting the pattern means deleting the remaining shifts and creating a new series.
